Study in Oman

Study starts with admission to an Omani university or recognized institution. The institution normally sponsors the student residence through the Royal Oman Police. Teaching may be in Arabic or English depending on the programme, so confirm language, tuition, housing and recognition before paying. As Oman has no resident mission in Nigeria, obtain the institution's written visa and document instructions.

The institution will state the financial evidence required for tuition and living costs. A scholarship or documented sponsor may cover some or all of the amount. Confirm whether health insurance, accommodation and legalized academic records must be provided before the student residence can be issued.

Work in Oman

Paid work requires an Omani employer, labour clearance and the work residence process handled through the Ministry of Labour and Royal Oman Police. The residence is tied to the approved employer and occupation. Ask for the written contract and official permit evidence before travelling. A recruiter message or visit visa does not authorize work, and occupation restrictions can affect foreign hiring.

The normal route is employer-sponsored work residence based on labour clearance and an attested contract. Investor or business residence follows a different process and does not turn an unrelated job into lawful employment. Confirm salary, occupation, accommodation and who bears recruitment or residence costs in the contract.

Permanent residency and citizenship in Oman

Oman does not offer ordinary workers a general permanent-residence route. Employment residence remains linked to the job and sponsor and may end when that relationship ends. A separate investor-residency programme offers longer renewable residence to applicants who make the qualifying investment, but it is not the same as ordinary permanent residence or a guaranteed route from years of employment.

Omani citizenship is highly restrictive and discretionary, and dual citizenship is generally not accepted without special permission. A Nigerian worker or investor should therefore plan around the duration and renewal conditions of the actual residence status rather than assume that long service or property ownership will lead to citizenship.

Family Reunification in Oman

Residents above an income threshold can sponsor a spouse and children for family residence. The sponsor's salary and housing are assessed.

Marriage in Oman

A marriage involving foreign nationals is handled through the competent Omani court or civil authority, and the requirements depend on the parties' nationality, religion and residence status. Obtain the checklist from the authority that will issue or register the marriage certificate before preparing Nigerian documents.

A Nigerian applicant may need a passport and residence evidence, birth and marital-status records, medical results and any final divorce decree or former spouse's death certificate. Nigerian documents may require Ministry of Foreign Affairs authentication, the Oman legalization route and certified Arabic translation.

Confirm the competent Omani office and obtain its written list, then complete the required authentication, legalization and Arabic translation. Attend with the parties, witnesses or guardian required for the case. Marriage does not automatically give the Nigerian spouse family residence or permission to work.

Using Nigerian Documents in Oman

Complete any Nigerian verification or notarization required for the document, followed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs authentication and the Omani attestation route where the receiving procedure requires them. The Royal Oman Police, court, university or other authority using the document decides whether it also needs an Arabic translation.

Oman has no embassy in Nigeria. After Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs authentication, ask the Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs which Omani embassy handles Nigerian documents and whether further attestation or legalization is required. Confirm this before sending original documents.

Arabic translation is separate from authentication and attestation. The Royal Oman Police, court, university or other office handling the procedure decides whether an English Nigerian document must be translated and what certification it accepts. Confirm that requirement before arranging translation.

Asylum & Legal Stay in Oman

Oman does not have a general domestic asylum procedure and is not a party to the 1951 Refugee Convention. A person in Oman who fears return or is facing detention or removal should contact UNHCR through its regional channels and obtain advice from a qualified Omani lawyer. There is no ordinary asylum visa that can be applied for from Nigeria.
