Visa Sponsorship Jobs Abroad for Nigerians and Their Families

Compare genuine employer-backed routes, family rights and settlement prospects, then verify the employer and immigration mechanism before you accept an offer or pay anyone.

What makes an employer-backed route worth pursuing

A job advert, a registered company and a work visa are three different things. A strong route passes all four tests below.

A verifiable employer

The legal business identity and any required sponsor or accreditation status must match the offer.

An eligible role

The occupation, duties, salary and qualifications must fit the official work route, not only the job title.

Real family rights

A spouse’s right to work and a child’s status vary by route and can change with skill level or salary.

A credible settlement path

Some routes lead directly or progressively to residence; others are temporary work routes with no reliable PR outcome.

Employer-backed routes by country

See how the work route, family options and path to residence differ across destinations. Confirm each requirement on the linked official source before applying.

Germany

Employer-backed, no sponsor licence

The route

A work visa for qualified professionals or an EU Blue Card needs a concrete job offer. Germany does not use a UK-style sponsor-licence register.

Best fit

Recognised qualifications and roles in IT, engineering, healthcare, science, skilled trades and transport. Regulated professions still need recognition or authorisation.

Family and settlement

Spouses and children can join qualifying skilled workers; a spouse may work once authorised. Settlement timing depends on the permit, with faster rules for EU Blue Card holders.

Important distinction

The Opportunity Card is a separate self-funded job-search route. It is not a sponsorship job and a full-time job offer is needed to move into an employment residence title.

Ireland

Strong family and Stamp 4 route

The route

The Critical Skills Employment Permit covers listed high-skill roles. The broader General Employment Permit can cover other eligible jobs, often after a Labour Market Needs Test.

2026 thresholds

From 1 March 2026 the standard minimum is EUR 40,904 for Critical Skills and EUR 36,605 for General Employment Permits, with specific lower or public-sector rules.

Best fit

ICT, engineering, medicine, nursing, science, finance and qualifying construction roles. The Critical Skills list was expanded in May 2026.

Family and settlement

Critical Skills holders can apply with their nuclear family and may qualify for Stamp 4 after 21 months. Current family policy gives eligible spouses or partners work access.

Canada

Employer permit and PR are separate

The route

An employer-specific work permit normally needs a positive LMIA or an LMIA-exempt offer number. Job Bank identifies roles open to foreign candidates.

PR context

Express Entry is a separate permanent-residence system. Since 25 March 2025, job offers no longer add CRS points, though an offer can still matter for eligibility or a work permit.

2026 focus

Category-based selection includes French proficiency, health and social services, STEM, trades, education, transport and several Canadian-experience categories.

Family rights

Family members may apply to accompany a worker, but a spouse’s open-work-permit eligibility now depends on the worker’s route, occupation and permit validity.

Australia

Clear employer and PR routes

The route

The Skills in Demand subclass 482 visa requires nomination for a skilled position by an approved sponsor, relevant skills and English. Most applicants need at least 12 months of relevant experience.

2026 salary floor

For applications from 1 July 2026, the Core Skills Income Threshold is AUD 79,423 and the Specialist Skills Income Threshold is AUD 146,576, alongside market salary rules.

Permanent residence

Subclass 186 can grant permanent residence through direct entry or transition. The transition stream usually needs two years of eligible sponsored work in the previous three years and a fresh employer nomination.

Family rights

Partners and dependent children can be included, subject to health, character and other visa requirements.

Netherlands

Recognised sponsor system

The route

Only an IND-recognised employer can apply under the Dutch Highly Skilled Migrant scheme. The employment contract and market-rate salary must meet IND rules.

2026 salary

Current monthly gross thresholds are EUR 5,942 for age 30 or over, EUR 4,357 under 30 and EUR 3,122 under the reduced graduate criterion. Check the date-specific IND table.

Best fit

Technology, engineering, finance, research and other high-skill roles with employers on the IND public register.

Family and settlement

Partners of highly skilled migrants are free to work. Permanent residence can be possible after five continuous years if all residence and integration conditions are met.

United Kingdom

Viable, but materially narrower

The route

The Skilled Worker visa requires an eligible job, an approved sponsor and the applicable salary or going rate. New overseas care-worker and senior-care-worker recruitment is closed.

Best fit

Higher-skilled occupations that remain eligible under the current tables. Medium-skilled routes are restricted and must be checked against the current occupation lists.

Family rights

Dependants may join many Skilled Workers, but new care-worker and many medium-skilled cases face specific restrictions. Never assume dependants are allowed from the visa name alone.

Settlement

The current official route can lead to indefinite leave to remain after five qualifying years, subject to continuing employment, salary and other requirements.

New Zealand

Accredited employer plus Green List

The route

The Accredited Employer Work Visa requires a full-time offer from an accredited employer and an approved job check, plus the skills, experience and any occupational requirements.

Residence options

A Green List Tier 1 job with an accredited employer can support Straight to Residence. Tier 2 roles can support Work to Residence after 24 months of qualifying work.

Best fit

Roles appearing on the current Green List or other skilled vacancies from accredited employers. Check the exact occupation, pay and registration requirements.

Family rights

Residence routes can include a partner and dependent children aged 24 or younger. Temporary-family support under an AEWV depends on the worker’s role and pay.

Denmark

Shortage-list and salary routes

The route

The Positive Lists cover shortage occupations with specified education. Pay Limit routes cover qualifying high-salary offers. Salary and employment terms must meet Danish standards.

Best fit

IT, engineering, science, healthcare, teaching, construction and selected skilled work, subject to the current list and any Danish authorisation requirement.

Family rights

Spouses, partners and children can apply as accompanying family. Family members generally can work, though a separate permit may be needed with the same or a closely related employer.

Settlement

Permanent residence normally requires eight years, or four in limited cases where all supplementary requirements are met. This is not a fast PR route.

Norway

Strong route, concrete offer required

The route

A Skilled Worker permit normally requires one concrete job offer from a specific Norwegian employer. The job is normally full-time, must require skilled-worker qualifications and must meet normal Norwegian pay and conditions.

Best fit

University graduates, workers with qualifying three-year vocational training and some applicants with substantial documented specialist experience. Regulated occupations require recognition.

Fraud control

For many applications from abroad, the employer must confirm the job offer and give the applicant a code before the application is submitted.

Family and settlement

Family can usually apply at the same time. Skilled-worker residence can form the basis for permanent residence after three continuous qualifying years, subject to other requirements.

Search and verify on official services

These sources are useful because they are operated by governments or public employment bodies. They help you find or verify opportunities; none guarantees that a particular vacancy includes sponsorship.

Employer checks

UK licensed sponsors

Confirm that the organisation is licensed for the relevant worker route.

A listed employer may still advertise unsponsored roles.

Employer checks

Netherlands recognised sponsors

Search the IND register by legal employer name and KvK number.

Only recognised sponsors can use the Highly Skilled Migrant route.

Employer checks

New Zealand accredited employers

Check current accreditation using the legal or trading name or NZBN.

Accreditation is necessary but not a personal job offer.

Official jobs

Canada foreign-candidate jobs

Use Job Bank listings specifically marked open to candidates outside Canada.

Do not apply blindly to jobs restricted to people already authorised to work.

Official jobs

Germany international jobs

Search Federal Employment Agency vacancies presented through Make it in Germany.

Recognition, language and residence-title requirements still apply.

Official jobs

Ireland JobsIreland

Search the Department of Social Protection’s public employment service.

Compare the job with the Critical Skills and ineligible occupation lists.

Official jobs

Denmark Workindenmark

Search English-language roles through Denmark’s official international recruitment service.

The job must still fit a SIRI work scheme.

Official jobs

Norway NAV jobs

Search one of Norway’s largest vacancy databases and filter for English working language.

Most skilled-worker applications need a concrete confirmed offer.

Official jobs

Finland international jobs

Search English-language roles open to talent inside and outside the EU.

Some jobs face labour-market testing; specialist permits do not.

What a credible offer should let you verify

Do not send money, passport scans or original certificates until the route and employer both pass these checks.

  • The employer’s legal name and registration match the email domain, contract and official register.
  • The job duties and occupation code, not only the title, fit the official immigration route.
  • The salary meets both the visa threshold and the normal market rate where required.
  • The offer identifies who will obtain the sponsor certificate, LMIA, nomination or accredited-employer job check.
  • No employer or recruiter asks you to pay for the job, a sponsorship certificate or an LMIA.
  • Family rights and the route to settlement have been checked for your exact permit, skill level and occupation.

Get your documents ready early

Even a genuine job offer can be delayed when qualifications, work history, identity records or family documents are incomplete or inconsistent. Prepare these before the employer or immigration authority asks for them.

Find the right work route

Compare country-specific work options, employer requirements and official sources before you apply or accept an offer.

This is general guidance for Nigerians, not immigration or recruitment advice. Work-visa rules, salary thresholds, occupation lists, family rights and settlement periods change. Confirm the current requirement with the official source before applying, paying anyone or accepting an offer.
