Study in Türkiye

Study starts with admission to a Turkish university or other recognized institution. After enrolment, the student normally applies for a student residence permit through the Presidency of Migration Management. Confirm the teaching language, tuition, health-insurance requirement and residence-permit documents with the institution before paying. Turkiye Scholarships is one funding route, but it is separate from ordinary self-funded admission.

Work in Türkiye

A job offer does not by itself authorize work in Turkiye. The employer normally files the work-permit application with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, and the approved permit also supports lawful residence for the job. Employer size, salary and occupation rules can affect approval, so confirm that the employer can sponsor the specific position before travelling or paying an intermediary.

The main route is an employer-sponsored work permit. Separate procedures exist for some academics, professionals, company owners and applicants who qualify for an independent or long-term work permit. A tourist or student residence permit is not general permission to take any job.

Permanent residency and citizenship in Türkiye

Long-term residence may be available after at least eight years of continuous lawful residence, but not every type of stay counts in the same way. The applicant must also meet the current income, insurance, public-order and recent social-assistance rules. This is different from property-based residence and from the separate citizenship-by-investment programme.

Ordinary naturalization generally looks for five years of continuous residence, sufficient Turkish, good character, income or occupation and an intention to settle. Meeting the stated conditions does not make approval automatic. Turkiye also has a separate investment route with its own qualifying thresholds and checks.

Family Reunification in Türkiye

Citizens and residents can sponsor a spouse and children for a family residence permit. The relationship and the sponsor's status and income are assessed.

Spouse, and minor children.

A Turkish citizen or a resident with valid status and sufficient income, who can evidence the relationship.

A minimum income above the set level is required to sponsor family members. Confirm the current threshold.

Marriage and birth certificates, together with the sponsor's residence and income evidence. Follow the checklist for the particular family-residence application to determine which Nigerian records need Turkish Embassy legalization or a Turkish translation.

Marriage in Türkiye

Civil marriages are registered by a municipal marriage office. The local population and civil-registration directorate, commonly called the Nufus office, supplies or checks some of the civil-status records used in the process.

A Nigerian applicant will usually need a valid passport and proof that they are free to marry. A final divorce decree or former spouse's death certificate is also needed where relevant. Ask the municipal marriage office whether it requires a birth record, health report or residence evidence, and which Nigerian documents must be legalized and translated into Turkish.

Obtain the checklist from the exact municipal office that will conduct the marriage. Complete the accepted legalization and Turkish translation, submit the documents and attend the required health or appointment steps. A Turkish marriage certificate does not by itself give the Nigerian spouse residence or permission to work; that requires the appropriate family residence process.

Using Nigerian Documents in Türkiye

Get the checklist for your residence, study, work or civil-registration purpose before preparing documents. For the specified residence records, Turkish Migration Management describes approval and notarized translation. Embassy submission details remain to be confirmed.

Turkish residence-document instructions require consular or embassy and Turkish authority approval for certain foreign records without an apostille. Confirm the Nigerian certification and document-specific sequence with the receiving office and Turkish mission.

Do not assume every Nigerian document must be legalized at the Turkish Embassy in Abuja. Turkish residence rules are document-specific, and the Embassy's current acceptance and submission arrangements must be confirmed directly.

For certain foreign records listed in Turkish residence-permit checklists, Migration Management expressly requires a notarized Turkish translation. Other purposes may have different rules. Check the relevant authority's list.

Birth certificate, single-status certificate, marriage certificate, degree and transcript, and police character certificate.

Asylum & Legal Stay in Türkiye

International-protection applications are handled by the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management in the province where the person is living. The application must be made in person. It cannot be filed through a Turkish embassy abroad, and a lawyer or representative cannot lodge the initial application instead of the applicant.

Registration gives the applicant a lawful basis to remain while the case is examined and leads to an international-protection registration document. The applicant must keep the registered address current, attend the interview and comply with any regular reporting instruction. A lawyer can assist with the case and an appeal, even though the first application must be made personally.
