Nigerian Document Legalization for Norway
For Norwegian family immigration, check UDI’s document checklist and whether your Nigerian records need legalization. The Nigerian MFA step and any further consular handling are separate from UDI’s residence decision.
What Norway actually requires
UDI requires proper certification of family-immigration documents, with the method depending on the issuing country. The Norwegian Embassy in Abuja expressly requires Nigerian MFA legalization for birth and marriage records used in a child’s Norwegian ID-number and passport application. These are different receiving procedures.
Current public material does not establish a general Norwegian Embassy legalization counter for every Nigerian document. Confirm any onward consular step with the Norwegian authority or mission handling your particular case before sending an original.

Check whether the document needs verification or notarization before the next step.
Authenticate at the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Where UDI or another Norwegian authority requires Nigerian MFA legalization, begin through Advanced Consular Services online and follow its physical-vetting appointment instructions. The Norwegian Embassy expressly asks for this step for birth and marriage records in a child’s Norwegian ID-number and passport application. Do not treat that passport rule or an education-ministry step as universal.
Confirm the receiving procedure
For UDI family immigration, use your personalised checklist and confirm how a Nigerian record must be certified. For a child born in Nigeria applying for a Norwegian ID number and passport, the Embassy specifies Nigerian MFA legalization of the relevant birth and marriage records.
