Nigerian Document Legalization for the Czech Republic
The Czech Embassy in Abuja superlegalizes certain Nigerian public documents after Nigerian MFA authentication. It requires the original and personal submission under its current appointment system. Translation is a separate requirement that depends on the Czech procedure.
What the Czech Republic actually requires
The Czech Embassy lists birth certificates, marriage certificates, police records and university diplomas among the documents that may require superlegalization for use in the Czech Republic.
The embassy requires the original document after authentication by the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It does not accept an ordinary or certified copy for this service.
Which Nigerian documents this affects
The need for superlegalization depends on what the Czech authority requests. For documents covered by the embassy procedure, use the original. Birth and marriage certificates must be brought by the document owner.
Step by step, from Nigeria
Confirm the Czech purpose and document
Check the requirements for the visa, residence permit, civil matter, university or other Czech procedure. This establishes whether the document needs superlegalization and translation.
Prepare the original Nigerian document
Complete only the verification required for that document. The embassy’s superlegalization page does not establish a universal Federal Ministry of Education or Letter of Eligibility step for every academic record.
Authenticate through MFA Advanced Consular Services
Start Nigerian MFA authentication online through ACS. The workflow includes document details, upload, payment, tracking and an appointment stage for physical vetting.
Book and attend the Czech Embassy appointment
Use the embassy’s current appointment instructions. Bring the MFA-authenticated original in person. Documents cannot be sent by post, and the embassy may request the document holder or evidence of the purpose.
Translation
All supporting documents for Czech long-term visas and residence permits must be in Czech or accompanied by an official certified Czech translation. The embassy says only original hard copies of official translations are accepted. This translation rule is separate from superlegalization and should not be extended to a different Czech procedure without checking its requirements.
Recognition is separate
A Czech university or recognition authority may separately assess an academic qualification. Superlegalization confirms the public document’s authentication chain. It does not itself grant academic recognition.

Appointments and registration arrangements can change. Review the embassy’s current notice before acting, and allow time for the original document, Nigerian MFA authentication, the embassy appointment and any certified Czech translation required by the receiving procedure.
